We were as pleased as you would have been to hear the Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday that he has set a new target that all adults in the UK who want a Covid booster should have had one by New Year’s Eve this year.
As with most of these announcements, the front-line NHS, including General Practice, had not been made aware of this change to the Government’s Covid Booster Programme in advance. We whole-heartedly agree and support this change to the Programme but ask that you give us, and our CCG and PCNs who arrange the immunisations, a little time to organise the necessary extra staff to help deliver this programme at one of the busiest times of the year, and with multiple bank holidays approaching. We also need to find out when and how we will be able to get extra immunisations delivered to our Immunisation Site, as will every other General Practice site across the UK.

We ask that you remain patient at this time whilst we work hard to deliver these last-minute Government changes.
We will attempt to continue to provide all the services we can for General Practice but ask that you bear in mind that the Prime Minister has asked that General Practice now stand down non-urgent services in order to provide these extra Covid Boosters for all UK adults.
